Summer Programme

For summer positions, we hire students who have completed their 2nd year of law school or their 3rd year of a 4-year program. We view the summer as a great opportunity for you to get a broad exposure to the practice areas in which you're interested, as we recognize that it's still early in your career.

Some of the highlights of our summer programme include:

Flexibility During the Summer:  We give you the opportunity to "design your own summer" at the firm.  We don't have formal rotations during the summer, so you can have a varied work experience or focus on one practice area, depending on your interests.

Mentorship Programme:  We view our mentorship programme as being a cornerstone to our student programme.  You'll be matched with 3 mentors (a partner and 2 associates) from your practice area(s) of interest. Your mentors will be instrumental in the work that you're involved in when you first join us, and will provide you with hands-on career development advice and support throughout the summer.

Work Allocation and Responsibility:  You'll get a high degree of responsibility which will help you to develop your practice skills and knowledge of law.  You'll receive a significant amount of your work through your mentors and from the lawyers from whom you seek out work.  You'll meet once a week as a group with Ritu to discuss workload, and will discuss work with your mentors as well, which will help you to maintain a balanced workload.

Continuing Legal Education Programme: We have a very broad and comprehensive CLE programme for summer students that includes: in-house seminars, seminars conducted by external organizations we invite to the firm, and a practice area lunch series with students and lawyers.  Our CLE programming helps you gain important legal skills and practical knowledge.

Evaluation Process: Summer students receive formal feedback in July from the lawyers they have worked with.  The lawyers you're working with will also provide you with ongoing, informal feedback, which will assist with your continued development.  At the end of the summer term, we ask you to evaluate your summer experience, which helps the firm to continually improve our summer programme.

Knowledge Management (KM):  Students have access to an innovative portal-based intranet, searchable KM system, cutting-edge precedents, extensive electronic and print library collection, and a committed team of KM lawyers to assist you.

Summer Student Compensation

Salary: Our summer programme compensation philosophy is to pay our students at the forefront of our market.  Currently, our summer students are paid $1,450 per week.

Technology:   We pay for and provide a BlackBerry to all summer students for their use during their time working with us.

Vacation:  Summer students receive one week paid vacation.

Fitness Membership: The firm pays the full cost of a four-month fitness membership.
