Stikeman Elliott is acting for Yara International ASA in its acquisition of all of the outstanding common shares of Terra Industries Inc. for approximately US$4.1 billion in cash.

Defense of OEB decision succeeds
A team of Stikeman Elliott litigators successfully argued for the dismissal of an appeal against the Ontario Energy Board. The appeal was related to the Board's refusal to allow Great Lakes Power to recover approximately $15M from its customers through a rate increase.

Firm dominates securities league tables
Stikeman Elliott has been ranked #1 in a number of Q2 2009 securities league tables from the Financial Post. Among other first place rankings, the firm was ranked #1 by value ($5.76B) and deal count (18) as counsel on debt and equity offerings to issuers.

David Angus Award
In honour of Senator David Angus, a $5,000 award has been created to help support law and articling students employed by Stikeman Elliott. Every year for five years, $1,000 will be awarded to the outstanding student at Stikeman Elliott Montreal who best exemplifies the values embraced by the firm.

Sinopec acquires Addax Petroleum
The firm acted as co-counsel for Sinopec International Petroleum Exploration and Production Corporation in its $10.3 billion acquisition of Addax Petroleum Corp.

Molson family acquires Canadiens
Stikeman Elliott is acting for George N. Gillett in connection with the sale of the Montréal Canadiens and the Bell Centre to the Molson family.

TransCanada $1.84 billion equity offering
Stikeman Elliott acted for TransCanada Corporation in its $1.84 billion prospectus offering of common shares.

TransCanada acquires Keystone
Stikeman Elliott acted for TransCanada Corporation in its acquisition of ConocoPhillips' remaining interest in Keystone Oil Pipeline System for approximately US$750 million. TransCanada will also assume responsibility for ConocoPhillips' share of the capital investment required to complete the project resulting in an incremental commitment of approximately US$1.7 billion through the end of 2012.

Cameron Corp, NATCO merger
Stikeman Elliott is acting for both Cameron Corp and NATCO on competition regulatory issues regarding their US$780 million merger.

Appeal succeeds in insurance case
A team from Stikeman Elliott's Litigation Group successfully represented State Farm Mutual Insurance Company before the Alberta Court of Appeal in a major constitutional case that has significant implications for legislation throughout Canada where litigants are subject to the legislative caps on damage awards.

On April 16, the Calgary office of Stikeman Elliott was recognized by Volunteer Calgary with a Leader in Business Award. This is the second year in a row that the Calgary office has won this award. Two AIG transactions completed
The firm acted as co-counsel for AIG, Inc. in the C$329 million sale of its Canadian life insurance business to Bank of Montreal. The firm also acted as Canadian counsel for AIG, Inc. in the US$739 million sale to Munich Re Group.

Stikeman Elliott blog wins LMA award
The firm's securities and M&A blog, Canadian Securities Law Online, was recognized at the Legal Marketing Association's Your Honor awards, handed out April 2 in Washington, D.C. Air Canada has appointed Stikeman Elliott alumnus Calin Rovinescu its new president and CEO. Mr. Rovinescu spent 22 years with Stikeman Elliott with a focus on corporate finance, privatization and M&A before his departure in 2000, and served as Montreal managing partner and London managing principal.
