Law Practice
As the Director of Knowledge Management in the Toronto office of Stikeman Elliott, Nicola Shaver leads the planning, development and execution of Knowledge Management systems and initiatives. She facilitates collaboration between practicing lawyers, business services, and technology to identify and implement processes and products that improve efficiency and productivity. Ms. Shaver works with other members of senior management and the Knowledge Management Committee to develop innovative approaches towards effectively leveraging the Firm's collective knowledge to the benefit of clients.

In her role, Ms. Shaver directs and manages members of the KM team and the Library and Information Services team. She is responsible for the ongoing management of the firm's extensive precedent, legal resources and knowledge collections and facilitates the publication of various client-facing resources. Ms. Shaver also coordinates various training programs and legal seminars across the firm.

In addition to the Knowledge Management Committee, Ms. Shaver sits on Stikeman Elliott's Business Services Committee and Education Committee.

Professional Activities
Ms. Shaver is active in the legal knowledge management community in Toronto and is a member of the Toronto Legal KM Group.

Education
Born in the Netherlands, Ms. Shaver received two BA degrees with Honours from Queen's University in 1998, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Alberta in 2000, and earned her law degree in Australia, graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney in 2004. Ms. Shaver is currently studying for the Canadian Bar.

Background
Prior to joining Stikeman Elliott, Ms. Shaver worked in Knowledge Management and Practice Support at other top tier Canadian law firms, and practiced litigation and media law in Australia for eight years, first in private practice and subsequently in-house with large media and communications companies. Ms. Shaver clerked for the Honourable Justice Henric Nicholas of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2004.

Ms. Shaver is fluent in German.
