Law Practice
William Scott is a partner in the Corporate Group of the Toronto office of Stikeman Elliott. He is a senior member of the firm's Structured Finance and Financial Products Group. He practises principally in the structured finance, derivatives, corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions areas. Mr. Scott is also Co-Chair of the firm's Professional & Ethics Committee.

Mr. Scott has been recognized in Lexpert/American Lawyer's 2017 Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2017, as a leading practitioner in the Derivative Instruments sector, in The Best Lawyers in Canada 2017 for derivatives law, in Who's Who Legal Canada 2016 in Banking and Capital Markets, Who's Who Legal: Banking 2015 for finance and in Who's Who Legal: Capital Markets for structured finance. Mr. Scott advises a variety of clients on complex financial structures and was the lead counsel to eight foreign banks on the C$32B restructuring of the Canadian third party ABCP market, the largest CCAA restructuring in Canadian history.

Professional Activities
Mr. Scott is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Bar Association. He is also a Governor of Appleby College, Co-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association and Auditing and Assurance Standards Board's Task Force updating the Joint Policy Statement on audit inquiries and a Past President of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association.

Background
Between 1989 and 1997, Mr. Scott was based in the firm's London, England office and was subsequently the senior lawyer in the firm's Singapore office.
