Law Practice
Nicholas McHaffie is a partner in Stikeman Elliott's Litigation, Intellectual Property, and Competition and Foreign Investment groups in Ottawa. He practices in the area of litigation, with a primary emphasis on intellectual property, public law, administrative/regulatory and commercial matters. Mr. McHaffie has appeared before the Courts at all levels, including the trial and appeal levels of both the Ontario Court and the Federal Court, and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as before numerous administrative tribunals such as the Competition Tribunal, the Copyright Board, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the Patented Medicines Prices Review Board and the Trademarks Opposition Board.

Mr. McHaffie is recognized in Benchmark Canada: The Definitive Guide to Canada's Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys 2017 in Intellectual Property. He is a recipient of Benchmark Canada's 2015 White Collar Crime / Enforcement / Constitutional Litigator of the Year award, and was named a "Local Litigation Star" in 2014 in the area of Intellectual Property. He received the Platinum Lexpert Zenith Award for Pro Bono work for the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society in 2011. He has also been recognized as a leading lawyer by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2017 in the area of Litigation: Public Law, and the 2017 Acritas StarsTM in the field of Litigation law.

Professional Activities
Mr. McHaffie sits on the Editorial Board of the Commercial Litigation and Arbitration Review. Mr. McHaffie taught Administrative Law and Civil Procedure at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Common Law from 2003 to 2009 as a part-time professor, and formerly taught Civil Trial Advocacy at Queen's University, Faculty of Law, as a special lecturer (2000-2003). He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, The Advocates' Society, the County of Carleton Lawyers Association and the Supreme Court of Canada Law Clerks Association.
