Richard Hay is an international tax principal and the head of the London office's International Private Client Group. Mr. Hay advises governments, financial institutions and private clients on financial regulation and the information exchange initiatives conducted by the OECD, the EU, the FATF and the IMF. He also advises banks and private clients on tax, commercial, regulatory and political risk aspects of international estate planning structures for high net worth families, particularly those in Canada, Latin America and Europe.

Mr. Hay is recognized as a leading practitioner in the field of international private client matters in Chambers Global's Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers for Business, PLC Which Lawyer? and Legal Experts 2010. He was awarded the 2008 STEP Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession for work related to international financial regulation.

Professional Activities
Mr. Hay is co-chairman of the London-based International Committee of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He is also a member of the International Bar Association and the International Tax Planning Association.

Prior to entering practice in 1987, Mr. Hay was the law clerk to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ontario (1979-80) and lectured on international taxation and corporate law at the Faculties of Law at the National University of Singapore (1984-87) and the University of Ottawa (1981-84).
