Margaret Grottenthaler
Law Practice
As the head legal research partner in the Toronto office, Margaret Grottenthaler writes opinions and provides advice on a wide variety of corporate and commercial issues for clients of the firm. She has a particular specialty in derivatives products and securities financing arrangements such as securities loans and repo transactions. She is the author of the Canadian law opinions on ISDA's standard form master agreements, ISLA's securities lending agreements and ICMA's and SIFMA's repo agreements. She provides advice on the central clearing, structuring, enforcement, and collateralization of derivatives and securities financing transactions. She is a regular contributor to the firm's Structured Finance and Financial Products blog, our Retrospect publication and a frequent speaker at our in-house seminars and outside conferences. She is co-chair of the firm's National Knowledge Management Committee and chair of the Toronto office Opinions Committee.

Professional Activities
Ms. Grottenthaler is chair of the ISDA's Canadian Legal and Regulatory Affairs Committee, a member of ISDA's Canadian Steering Committee and a member of the Canadian Securities Lending Association's Legal Committee. She is a member of TOROG (Toronto Opinions Group), the Toronto Research Lawyers Group and the Canadian Bar Association. She has served on the Federal Judicial Advisory Committee and was a member of the Ontario Government's committee on reform of the Commodity Futures Act.

Ms. Grottenthaler is a singer in and president of newchoir, Toronto's 200-member first rock choir, and a member of the board of directors of Art of Time Ensemble. She was formerly Chair of the Walrus Foundation. She plays the piano and writes choral arrangements of rock tunes in her spare time.
