Law Practice
Kevin O'Brien is a senior associate practising corporate law in the Toronto office of Stikeman Elliott. Mr. O'Brien is a member of the Structured Finance and Financial Products and Derivatives Practice Groups and focuses on advising a wide variety of market participants - including domestic and U.S.-based dealers, hedge funds, investment advisers, and other end-users - with respect to structured products and derivative instruments, leveraging his background as a U.S. practitioner. He has frequently been called upon to give in-depth presentations to clients regarding legal, regulatory and collateral management issues relating to swaps and derivatives and to advise on the development of robust frameworks to apply to industry standard agreements as well as cross-platform documentation and bespoke transactions. Mr. O'Brien also frequently advises on both rated and unrated securitization and structured product transactions for the Canadian and U.S. markets.

Mr. O'Brien is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association and is registered as a Foreign Legal Consultant with The Law Society of Upper Canada.

Background
Prior to joining Stikeman Elliott, Mr. O'Brien practised in all areas of securities and futures market regulation and derivatives law for eight years with leading U.S. law firms in Chicago, most recently with Sidley Austin LLP.
