The Calgary office of Stikeman Elliott passionately supports our local community, and we are proud to partner with Inn from the Cold in its efforts to
break the cycle of homelessness.
"Play is so important to optimal child development that it has been recognized by the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights as a right of every child"1
Stikeman Elliott's Kids Inn Play program ensures that all of the children who reside at Inn from the Cold have access to recreational activities throughout the year, with emphasis on the summer months.

Summer break is a particular time of need for children at Inn from the Cold. The children have two months off from school, but yet their families cannot afford summer camps, recreation programs or any of the community activities vital to a child's physical, emotional and intellectual development.

Stikeman Elliott's Kids Inn Play program engages children in safe and fun activities, connects them to their communities and strengthens their families.

Program Description

All children under the age of 18 who are residing at the shelter - or in the community accessing supportive Inn from the Cold services - are eligible for this program.

The program includes hiring a part-time recreation co-ordinator at the Inn for June, July and August. The co-ordinator is responsible for organizing activities, seeking out recreational opportunities and connecting with other community initiatives.

The program also directly funds recreation and community activities for the children of Inn from the Cold. Examples of various activities may include:

  • Creative arts
  • Music programs
  • Aboriginal cultural crafts
  • Swimming passes
