Get down to business with interesting, engaging assignments

You’re not here to watch – you’re here to participate

Our students learn by doing. You’ll get real-world experience on a wide variety of files. We go out of our way to make sure that student assignments are interesting and offer an intellectual challenge as you work in small teams with partners and associates. You will be given higher-order work assignments and greater levels of responsibility than many of your peers at other firms.

In Vancouver, we ask our articling students to take the summer off or attend PLTC, so that our summer students have an opportunity to work on challenging, interesting assignments.

As Canada’s gateway to the Pacific, there’s always something interesting happening here

Vancouver is a dynamic city with a key role to play in Canada’s economy, and Stikeman Elliott is right in the middle of it. We are regularly retained by domestic and international companies in a wide range of industries including financial services, insurance, technology, communications, transportation, manufacturing, mining, energy, infrastructure and retail.

As a Stikeman Elliott student, you will benefit from exposure to all aspects of our full service business law practice. You will work in a variety of legal areas on high profile mandates and transactions, including capital markets & securities, mergers & acquisitions, corporate governance, banking & finance, litigation & dispute resolution, and real estate (municipal & land use, project development & finance, infrastructure/public-private partnerships).

You won’t just hear about our work for international clients – you’ll be doing it

If international exposure is one of your interests, you’ll be excited about the opportunities here. We are actively involved in transactions that flow through the Pacific Rim economic region, and we regularly handle international matters including high-profile cross-border and multinational deals.

Stikeman Elliott’s vision has been international since the firm’s earliest days. In fact, we opened our first international office (London, 1969) before we opened our second Canadian office (Toronto, 1971). Furthermore, we built this international presence ourselves, not by merging with a global firm or scooping up smaller regional players. Stikeman Elliott was the first Canadian firm to open offices in London, New York and Australia. We also have extensive ties to clients in Europe, South America, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region, and we are deeply proud of our reputation as the ‘go-to’ Canadian firm for international business.

This grassroots experience with international clients means that Stikeman Elliott’s Vancouver students are regularly involved in matters that originate outside of Canada.
