Congratulations to Stikeman Elliott’s award-winning clients for being honoured with seven awards in their respective categories at the 2017 Canadian Dealmakers Awards gala in Toronto on March 8. The annual awards recognize Canadian companies and individuals whose transactions are some of the most impactful in the year, and are jointly organized by Deloitte, The Globe & Mail, Lexpert and Thomson Reuters.

  • Consumer Business Deal of the Year - CST Brands, Inc., as Canadian counsel, in its acquisition by Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. by way of a merger for a total enterprise value of US$4.4B.
  • Infrastructure & Utilities Deal of the Year - Alectra Utilities Corporation acquisition of Hydro One Brampton Networks Inc., to form one of the largest municipally owned utilities in North America.
  • IPO of the Year - Canada Goose Holdings Inc. in its C$391M cross-border IPO of subordinate voting shares and dual-listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange.
  • Integration Excellence Award - Dell EMC, as Canadian counsel, in the sale of its enterprise content division to OpenText Corp. for US$1.6B.
  • Mining Deal of the Year - Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. in its US$36B merger of equals by way of a plan of arrangement with Agrium Inc.
  • Value Creation Award - CGI Group Inc. - nine deals since January 2014.
  • Mid-Market Deal of the Year - Lantic (a subsidiary of Rogers Sugar) acquires L.B. Maple Treat. (represented syndicate of underwriters in the public offering)
