Stikeman Elliott lawyers volunteer at Pro Bono Ontario Hotline

June 20, 2018

In partnership with BMO Financial Group, over 20 lawyers from the Stikeman Elliott Toronto office and members of BMO’s in-house legal team volunteered their time to Pro Bono Ontario’s Free Legal Advice Hotline. During the week of June 11-15, these lawyers were on hand to answer telephone calls from Ontarians with legal needs who would not otherwise have had access to a lawyer.

Pro Bono Ontario, a charitable organization, not only ensures individual Ontarians have access to legal advice but also supports small businesses by assisting with common legal issues that come with running a business in Ontario. While Stikeman Elliott and BMO lawyers were volunteering, they helped 273 callers and surpassed an outstanding milestone of assisting 10,000 calls since launching in September 2017.

“We are so grateful for your commitment and outstanding contribution to increasing access to justice in Ontario. Compliments and thanks to everyone who participated,” said Lynn Burns, Executive Director, Pro Bono Ontario.

At Stikeman Elliott, giving back to the communities which we live and work in has always been a top priority. By participating in community initiatives, we hope to ensure that charitable organizations are able to continue to support the individuals and causes that need their help.
