Stikeman Elliott signs the BlackNorth Initiative's Law Firm Pledge to end systemic racism

July 24, 2020

Stikeman Elliott has signed the BlackNorth Initiative’s Law Firm Pledge led by the Canadian Council of Business Leaders Against Anti-Black Systemic Racism. By signing this pledge, the firm joins other Canadian law firms and commits to specific goals designed to end anti-Black systemic racism and create opportunities for those in underrepresented Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) communities.

“We salute the leadership of the Canadian Council of Business Leaders Against Anti-Black Systemic Racism and the BlackNorth Initiative and are proud to join in their efforts to ensure that Canadian firms better reflect the composition and values of our communities”, said Marc Barbeau, Chair of the firm. “We know these goals are shared by many law firms like ourselves and look forward to working toward diversity and inclusion with them.”

At Stikeman Elliott, diversity and inclusion are integral parts of who we are, and increasing diversity has been a key focus for the firm. We are pleased to sign the Law Firm Pledge to address systemic barriers in the legal community, and we are committed to continuing to work towards our own diversity and inclusion objectives to better reflect the composition and values of our diverse Canadian communities.
