We mourn the loss of Jeffrey Keey

May 1, 2017

With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our talented partner and great friend, Jeffrey Keey, on April 22, 2017 in London, following a short battle with cancer.

Jeffrey (Jeff) was born on September 25, 1956 in Meriden, Warwickshire in England. He graduated from Oxford University with a B.A. Jurisprudence Honours in 1979 and wrote his Law Society Finals in 1980. Jeff became a solicitor in England and Wales in 1982, and then obtained his license to practice in Hong Kong in 1985.

Jeff joined Stikeman Elliott in the London office in April 1999 as our first English qualified lawyer. He ran a corporate practice specializing in complex cross-border corporate, commercial and finance transactions. Jeff also had a very broad skill set which enabled him to assist lawyers across our firm on a wide array of English law matters. Jeff served as the general counsel for our London office navigating very strict and complex UK regulatory requirements and ensuring necessary compliance.

Prior to joining our firm, Jeff articled at Linklaters & Paines (1980-1982) where he practised until 1984. He then joined the UK firm Simmons & Simmons in its Hong Kong office, returning to their London office in 1988. He became a partner in the Corporate Department of Simmons & Simmons in 1990, until he joined Stikeman Elliott in London.

Jeff truly enjoyed his work and bringing satisfaction to his clients, with whom he formed strong relationships. He was a wonderful partner and highly respected among his colleagues at the firm. He was a great leader and mentor to other lawyers in the firm. He held the reputation throughout the London office of being generous with his time and always willing to enthusiastically lend a hand and offer advice whenever he was called upon to do so.

On a personal level, Jeff had a great love for the sport played by gentlemen – rugby. He enjoyed watching his favourite teams, Harlequins Football Club and the England national rugby union team. Jeff also had a keen passion for photography and was able to capture simple and beautiful images. The London office has a number of Jeff’s photographs displayed with pride throughout the office.

Jeff will be greatly missed by the London team and all of his friends and colleagues at Stikeman Elliott. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Jeff’s remarkable wife, Louise, and their two fantastic children, Catherine and James.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our colleague, friend and a very good man.
